Steven I. Klein is a business lawyer and firm member at Sher Garner Cahill Richter Klein & Hilbert, L.L.C., who advises clients on taxation, business entities, mergers, acquisitions, and related disputes. Steven earned a B.S. in Accounting with high honors from the University of Maryland in 1972. He received his J.D. with honors from the University of Maryland School of Law, where he joined the Order of the Coif. He served as notes and comments editor of the Maryland Law Review and received the Joseph Bernstein Prize. He later earned an LL.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law in 1980, strengthening his advanced tax knowledge for complex matters.

Steven has professional recognition that reflects longstanding experience in tax, corporate, nonprofit, and private client law. He has appeared in The Best Lawyers in America since 2007 and received several Lawyer of the Year designations. Chambers USA ranked him for Corporate and M&A tax work from 2004 through 2022. Louisiana Super Lawyers recognized him from 2007 through 2025, including Top 50 selections. He is a Fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel and a certified tax attorney throughout his legal career.

Steven I. Klein has contributed extensively to tax scholarship, legal education, and professional leadership. He served as an Internal Revenue Service district counsel attorney from 1975 through 1980. He later chaired the American Bar Association Tax Section’s S Corporations Committee from 2002 through 2004. His published work addresses limited liability companies, business entities, S corporations, acquisitions, and federal taxation. He also taught natural resources taxation as an adjunct professor at Tulane University from 1989 through 2000 and presented tax seminars.
