Steven A. Lerman serves as Counsel Emeritus at Lerman Senter, a role earned through decades of exceptional legal service. He was the firm’s Managing Member from 2000 to 2017 and is a founding member of the practice. Steven is widely recognized for his unmatched range within media and communications law. Throughout his career, he has led transactions worth billions of dollars, guiding the acquisition and sale of hundreds of radio and television properties and advising high-profile media companies on complex regulatory and contractual matters.
Steven earned his B.S. in Economics from The Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania. He later received his J.D. with honors from The George Washington University Law School, where he was elected to the Order of the Coif.
As lead counsel for Infinity Broadcasting’s purchase of 44 radio stations and its merger with CBS, Steven played a key role in shaping the modern media landscape. He served as outside General Counsel for CBS Radio Inc. from 2000 to 2008, managing the legal affairs of 177 major market stations. His work has also included negotiating talent and executive contracts, defending high-profile First Amendment cases, and handling employment and syndication agreements. For 25 years, he successfully defended CBS and Infinity in matters involving Howard Stern.
Steven A. Lerman has also served on major public broadcasting companies’ boards and audit committees. His deep experience and thoughtful legal strategies have made him a go-to advisor for prominent companies like CBS, Viacom, Audacy, and Newscorp. He is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and several federal courts, and he is a member of the Federal Communications Bar Association. Honored in Best Lawyers (2009–2024), Super Lawyers (2007–2024), and rated “AV Preeminent” by Martindale-Hubbell since 1984, Steven’s legacy continues to guide the firm’s next generation.
