About
Steve Long is Of Counsel at Business Law Southwest in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he focuses primarily on estate planning. Long assists clients with wills, trusts, and uncontested probate matters and remains available for selected business transactions. He joined the firm in 2024 after more than 45 years in legal practice. He intentionally focuses on non-litigation matters, helping individuals and businesses organize legal affairs, transfer assets, and address straightforward transactional needs.
Long earned his J.D. from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 1977 and a B.B.A. from New Mexico State University in 1973. He later earned a Master of Divinity in 2009 and a Doctor of Ministry in 2015 from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. His combined legal, business, and advanced academic background supports a practical approach to estate planning and transactional matters involving family, organizational, and financial considerations.
Throughout his career, Long has handled a broad range of matters, including wills, trusts, probate, real estate, commercial transactions, business organizations, guardianships, conservatorships, bankruptcy matters for creditors, domestic relations, criminal defense, and civil and criminal trials and appeals. He has since eliminated litigation from his practice and now works almost exclusively on uncontested estate planning and probate matters, while continuing to assist with certain business transactions.
Steve Long received the State Bar Robert H. LaFollette Award for Lifetime Commitment to Legal Services for the Poor in 2017 and became a Board Certified Bankruptcy Law Specialist in 2007. He is admitted to the Supreme Court of New Mexico, the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, and the U.S. Court of Military Appeals. His decades of experience provide clients with practical guidance on estate planning, probate, and business transactions.
