Stephen R. Cornwell

Stephen R. Cornwell is a highly respected Fresno personal injury attorney with more than four decades of experience. He has tried over 150 cases and is widely recognized as one of the San Joaquin Valley’s most accomplished plaintiff’s lawyers. His work focuses on representing individuals and families in complex civil litigation involving serious injuries.

Stephen earned his Bachelor of Science degree from San José State in 1964 and his Juris Doctor from the University of California, Berkeley – Boalt Hall in 1967. He began his career as a prosecutor in the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office before joining McCormick, Barstow, Sheppard, Coyle & Best in 1970, where he gained extensive experience in civil trials.

Throughout his distinguished career, Stephen has handled cases spanning negligence, employment, premises liability, product liability, and professional liability. He has been entrusted with leadership roles, including serving as Chair of both the Defense and Plaintiff Steering Committees in landmark cases.

Stephen’s advocacy has reached the California Supreme Court and the United States Supreme Court. Professional honors include Diplomate status with the American Board of Trial Advocates, Fellowship in the American College of Trial Lawyers, and recognition as a California Super Lawyer and Best Lawyer in America.
