Stephen Dartt is an experienced intellectual property attorney who handles patent litigation, patent prosecution, and counseling involving electrical and computer-related technologies. He represents technology businesses ranging from early-stage startups to Fortune 500 companies. His work covers software, cloud computing, computer networking, data center infrastructure, machine learning, mobile computing, wireless transmission, cryptography, smart cards, payment systems, and other complex technologies. He is also a licensed Professional Electrical Engineer in California.
Stephen earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and a B.A. Computer Science & Mathematical Economic Analysis, Honors, from Rice University in 1994. He received a Master of Science in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Notre Dame in 1998 and a J.D., cum laude, from the University of Houston Law Center in 2006. His law school honors included the Order of the Barons, Order of the Barristers, and the Carothers Prize in Intellectual Property and Information Law.
Stephen began his career as a hardware and ASIC design engineer for semiconductor, computer, and graphics companies. That technical experience supports his ability to assess sophisticated inventions and explain complex systems in litigation. His legal work includes trials in Texas district courts, Markman proceedings, and fact and expert depositions. He has handled patent disputes involving telecommunications, television technology, voice recognition, OCR, computer hardware, mobile security, cloud software, orthodontic products, and semiconductor trade secrets.
Stephen Dartt brings technical knowledge and courtroom experience to intellectual property matters. He has defended a parcel delivery company in multidistrict patent litigation, pursued infringement claims involving 4G and Wi-Fi technologies, and represented technology companies in trial and appellate proceedings. He is admitted in Texas and California, before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and in several federal appellate and district courts. He also participates in the Austin Intellectual Property Law Association and the Honorable Lee Yeakel Austin Intellectual Property American Inn of Court.
