Stephen (Steve) A. Becker is a Director at NovoTech Patent Firm, bringing over four decades of experience in patent law. Based in Washington, D.C., he represents companies in securing and protecting innovations across key industries, including semiconductors, telecommunications, automotive technology, and computer-related inventions.
Steve earned his Juris Doctor, with honors, from George Washington University Law School. He also holds a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and the Illinois Institute of Technology, respectively, which form the technical foundation for his IP practice.
Prior to his legal career, Steve worked as a circuit designer, giving him hands-on engineering insight that continues to inform his strategic legal counsel. He has since prepared and prosecuted hundreds of U.S. and international patent applications, conducted IP due diligence, and advised on patentability, freedom-to-operate, and post-grant challenges.
Stephen A. Becker is the author of the annually published Patent Applications Handbook (Westlaw) and a contributor to Patents Throughout the World. He is frequently invited to lecture before national and international audiences, including the D.C. Bar, AIPPI-Japan, and the Korean Patent Attorneys Association.
Admitted to practice in Maryland and the District of Columbia and before the U.S. Supreme Court, Federal Circuit, and USPTO, Steve is widely recognized for his work. His honors include rankings by Chambers USA, IAM Patent 1000, Benchmark Litigation, The Legal 500, and Best Lawyers in America.
