About
Stanley M. Gibson is a seasoned California trial lawyer who handles complex intellectual property and technology disputes. He chairs a patent litigation practice and co-chairs a litigation department, leading high-stakes matters involving patents, trade secrets, and emerging technologies. Gibson represents clients in cases where technical evidence, business strategy, and courtroom advocacy are closely connected, helping them protect valuable innovations and pursue decisive litigation outcomes.
Gibson earned his J.D. from Duke University School of Law and an M.A. from Duke University in 1991 after receiving a B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1988. He served as executive editor of the Duke Law Journal and later clerked for Judge Deanell Reece Tacha of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. This training supports his analysis of technically demanding claims, appellate questions, and complex trial records.
Gibson’s representative work includes obtaining a multimillion-dollar jury verdict for BlueRadios in a trade secret case and handling a three-month patent infringement and contract trial that produced a verdict valued at approximately $570 million for a medical device inventor. He also secured a $16.7 million arbitration award involving satellite engineering and design. His broader trial and appellate experience spans manufacturing, semiconductors, medical devices, aerospace, software, real estate, sports, and entertainment disputes.
Stanley M. Gibson has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America from 2021 through 2026 and named among the Daily Journal’s Top Intellectual Property Lawyers in 2024 and 2025. He publishes a patent law blog and has been called upon by major business and legal publications for commentary. Gibson combines disciplined preparation, technical fluency, and extensive courtroom experience to guide clients through demanding intellectual property and commercial disputes.
