Stanford E. Lacy

Stanford E. Lacy co-founded Collins & Lacy, P.C. in 1984 and built a career centered on workers’ compensation defense, earning a reputation for depth and consistency over decades of practice. Even after stepping back from full-time work, he remains active, mentoring colleagues and guiding clients through mediation.

Stan earned his J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law and holds a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Virginia. During his time at Virginia, he took on leadership roles and developed the discipline that would later define his legal career.

Stan’s work in workers’ compensation law spans more than three decades, including arguing landmark cases before the Supreme Court and managing appeals across every level of the appellate system. He also played a role in shaping legislation, working with state leaders to improve South Carolina’s workers’ compensation framework.

Stan has received consistent recognition from Best Lawyers and Super Lawyers, including being named Workers’ Compensation Law Employer Lawyer of the Year in Columbia. His contributions were further honored with the Platinum Compleat Lawyer Award and the naming of an Inn of Court in his honor.

Stan has long been involved in teaching and professional development, serving as an adjunct professor and leading workshops for clients and businesses. His commitment to education reflects a genuine interest in helping others better understand the evolving landscape of compensation law.
