About
Shawn Estep is the founder and managing attorney of Estep Law Firm in Chesterfield. His practice focuses on estate planning, elder law, probate, and business succession planning, with work that helps families and business owners organize assets, plan for incapacity, address long-term care concerns, and prepare for ownership transitions. Shawn advises clients on trusts, wills, powers of attorney, asset protection, and related planning strategies designed to support orderly decision-making and preserve important family and business interests.
Shawn earned a B.S.E.E. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Missouri–Columbia in 1984 and a Juris Doctor from Saint Louis University School of Law in 1995. He later received an LL.M. in Taxation from Washington University in St. Louis in 2009. This combination of technical, legal, and tax education supports a planning practice that frequently involves detailed financial information, ownership structures, transfer strategies, tax considerations, and the coordination of documents across personal and business objectives.
Shawn’s work includes estate plans built around wills and trusts, asset-protection strategies, Medicaid and veterans planning, probate and trust administration, and succession planning for closely held businesses. He helps clients consider how long-term care, taxes, family circumstances, and business ownership can affect future transfers and decision-making. His practice also addresses the administration that follows death, giving clients guidance on legal responsibilities, fiduciary duties, and the steps required to carry out established plans.
Shawn Estep has nearly three decades of legal experience and holds the Certified Exit Planning Advisor credential. He serves on the board of the Exit Planning Institute’s St. Louis Chapter and founded the Elder Community Resource Network. Shawn combines estate, tax, elder-law, and succession-planning knowledge to help clients create coordinated plans, prepare for transitions, and address the practical legal issues that can arise when health, family, business ownership, and long-term financial goals intersect.
