Shawn A. Monroe

Shawn A. Monroe is an Attorney at Law who concentrates his practice in family law and brings extensive courtroom and trial experience to every case. He represents clients in matters involving divorce, allocations of parenting time and parental responsibilities, child support, maintenance, high-conflict divorces, high net-worth and complex asset divisions, domestic violence, post-decree modifications, and orders of protection. His background also includes work in criminal law, DCFS, and civil court appeals, and negotiating union collective bargaining agreements.

Shawn earned his Bachelor of Arts from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana. He later completed his Juris Doctor at Thomas Jefferson School of Law, San Diego, California. During law school, he was recognized on the Honor Roll and National Dean’s List. He received the Witkin/Cali/Jefferson Medal Awards in Legal Writing II, Mediation Theory and Practice, and Mock Trial. He was also a Finalist in the San Diego Defense Lawyers Mock Trial Competition, 2004; the ABA Law Student Division Negotiation Competition, 2004-2005; and the Texas Young Lawyers Association National Mock Trial Competition, 2005.

Shawn was licensed to practice law in California in 2006 and in Illinois in 2008. He is admitted to the Northern District of Illinois – Federal Trial Bar and the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit – Appellate Bar. He represents clients in DuPage, Cook, Will, Kane, Kendall, McHenry, Kankakee, DeKalb, and Lake counties.
