Sanford A. Schulman

Sanford A. Schulman is the founding attorney of Federal Criminal Attorneys of Michigan and one of the state’s most experienced and respected criminal defense lawyers. With more than 35 years of courtroom experience, Schulman has built a reputation for handling the most serious and complex federal and state cases. He has represented clients facing charges such as drug conspiracy, firearm offenses, criminal sexual conduct, child pornography, and homicide—often in courts where the stakes are highest.

Schulman earned his Juris Doctor from Wayne State University Law School after completing studies at Cranbrook, Kalamazoo College, and Cambridge University.

Schulman has tried a remarkable number of cases in both state and federal courts, including the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan, the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals, the Michigan Court of Appeals, and the Michigan Supreme Court. He is among a rare group of attorneys who have had multiple writs of certiorari granted by the United States Supreme Court—an achievement that underscores his legal skill and commitment to justice.

Throughout his distinguished career, Schulman has secured numerous not guilty verdicts and has been appointed by judges to represent clients in some of the most difficult and sensitive cases. He has also successfully obtained presidential commutations, gubernatorial pardons, and compassionate releases for his clients. Fluent in English and proficient in Spanish, he provides legal services to a broad and diverse client base.
