Sam Chalfant

Sam Chalfant is a partner who represents public school districts across the Puget Sound region. His practice focuses on special education, labor and employment, and student matters. He provides clear guidance on compliance, policy, and dispute resolution, helping clients address complex legal issues with practical, effective strategies.

Sam earned a B.A. from the University of Puget Sound, an M.S. from the University of Wisconsin – Madison School of Education, and a J.D., cum laude, Order of the Coif, from the University of Wisconsin Law School. His academic background supports the provision of thoughtful, informed legal counsel to public school district clients.

Sam provides legal advice and litigation representation to school districts. He handles all phases of special education matters, including counseling and dispute resolution. He also advises on human resources, student discipline, privacy, due process, and nondiscrimination, helping clients meet legal obligations and manage risk effectively.

Sam previously served as a partner in the education law practice group at a Puget Sound-based law firm that supported public school districts. During law school, he interned with the Education Division of the Washington State Office of the Attorney General, gaining experience in public education law.

Sam Chalfant is admitted to practice in Washington and Wisconsin and before the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington. He continues to support school districts with focused, practical counsel across education law, employment matters, and student-related legal issues.
