Roy R. Shannon

Roy R. Shannon is a founding partner of Shannon & Wright LLP, where he represents clients in real estate law, business transactions, and civil and commercial litigation throughout Virginia. With extensive trial and appellate experience in both state and federal courts, Roy provides strategic and results-driven counsel to individuals, businesses, and property owners facing complex legal matters involving land use, zoning, corporate disputes, and real estate litigation.

Roy’s real estate practice includes representing clients in transactions, eminent domain, land use proceedings, condemnation, construction disputes, and landlord-tenant matters. In his business practice, he advises on entity formation, acquisitions, governance, fiduciary obligations, partnership and shareholder disputes, and valuation issues. His background in arbitration and mediation also allows him to resolve cases efficiently through alternative dispute resolution when possible.

A lifelong member of the Washington, D.C. area community, Roy earned his legal experience early in his career as Clerk of the Court for the U.S. Coast Guard Court of Criminal Appeals, where he served for three years. He has since become a respected leader in Virginia’s legal community, chairing the Alexandria Community Services Board (2014–2019) and maintaining active memberships in the Virginia State Bar, Virginia Bar Association, Alexandria Bar Association, and Northern Virginia Association of Realtors® Attorney Roundtable.

Roy R. Shannon has been recognized repeatedly for excellence in practice, earning honors such as Best Lawyers in America (2024–2026), Virginia Super Lawyers (2021–2025), and Virginia Business Legal Elite (2020–2024). He also frequently lectures and publishes on real estate and land use law for the National Business Institute (NBI).
