About
Ronald M. Shapiro built a wide-ranging career as a negotiator, educator, advisor, and author, known for offering strategic guidance in business and sports. His work helped professionals navigate complex decisions, develop stronger communication skills, and manage high-stakes negotiations with clarity and confidence across multiple industries.
Ronald studied at Haverford College (B.A., 1964) before earning his J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School in 1967, an academic path that shaped his approach to law and negotiation. His early steps included a federal clerkship followed by teaching law, which strengthened his practical and analytical foundation.
Ronald began gaining national attention when he served as Maryland State Securities Commissioner from 1972 to 1974. During that time, he earned recognition as one of the country’s most effective state investment officials. His later leadership expanded into corporate and securities matters, where he became known for offering steadiness and practical solutions to difficult issues.
Ronald also entered the sports world by creating a management firm that focused on negotiation, financial planning, and community involvement. This approach helped athletes succeed on and off the field and led to acknowledgments such as being named one of the “100 most powerful people in sports.” His work later broadened into negotiation training, where he guided hundreds of thousands of professionals in preparation strategies and communication skills.
Ronald M. Shapiro also extended his skills to resolving disputes involving corporate, governmental, and nonprofit groups, often guiding parties toward balanced, effective outcomes that supported long-term progress. Ronald continued shaping leaders by founding Shapiro Advisors LLC, helping organizations improve their negotiation results and decision-making processes. His speakers’ role at universities, combined with media appearances and bestselling books, further expanded the reach of his methods. His contributions earned awards such as the Baltimore Sun’s Maryland Business and Civic Hall of Fame induction, the American Red Cross Lifetime Achievement Award, the Mel Allen Service Award, and the Leadership in Law Award.
