Robert W. Hammerle

Robert W. Hammerle is Of Counsel at Hackman Hulett LLP in Indianapolis and one of Indiana’s most experienced criminal defense attorneys. With more than four decades of practice, he has built a distinguished career representing clients in both federal and state courts across nearly every county in the state. Known for his dedication and thorough preparation, Hammerle has guided clients through some of the most complex and high-profile criminal cases while also giving the same care and focus to everyday matters.

Hammerle earned his J.D. from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law and began practicing law in 1973. In his first decade, he maintained a private practice while also serving as a part-time public defender in the Marion County Criminal Courts. These early years gave him invaluable trial experience and helped shape his client-centered approach to defense. He is admitted to practice in Indiana, the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.

Over the course of his career, Hammerle has represented clients in more than 100 jury trials. His cases have included charges involving murder, death penalty defense, securities fraud, forfeiture, grand jury investigations, juvenile offenses, DUI, traffic infractions, and appellate matters. His philosophy is that every client deserves full attention, treating a speeding ticket with the same importance as an argument before the Indiana Supreme Court.
