Robert W. Coykendall is a seasoned trial attorney with extensive experience in civil litigation across a broad range of substantive areas. His practice includes class actions, intellectual property disputes, antitrust matters, eminent domain, and oil and gas law. He has represented clients ranging from individuals to major corporations, including chemical and energy companies, and has tried high-stakes cases in both state and federal courts. Robert earned both his B.A. and J.D., along with an M.A., from the University of Kansas, completing his law degree in 1979. Following law school, he served as a clerk for the Honorable Frank G. Theis of the U.S. District Court of Kansas from 1979 to 1981. He was admitted to the Kansas Bar in 1979 and has since built a distinguished career representing clients in appellate and trial courts nationwide, including appearances before the Kansas Supreme Court, multiple U.S. Courts of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.
Robert’s litigation record includes landmark cases such as Phillips Petroleum Co. v. Shutts, which established rules for class action jurisdiction, and Leegin Creative Leather Products, Inc. v. PSKS, Inc., a U.S. Supreme Court decision on antitrust vertical pricing. He also served as liaison counsel in In re Urethane Antitrust Litigation, which secured a recovery exceeding $800 million for plaintiffs. His work has shaped national precedent and provided significant recoveries for clients in complex, high-value disputes.
