Robert T. Szostak

Robert T. Szostak is a Philadelphia trial lawyer with more than 34 years of experience representing people affected by catastrophic injuries and wrongful death. He focuses on complex civil litigation, including medical malpractice, product liability, motor vehicle accidents, premises liability, construction and workplace injuries, insurance bad faith, and traumatic brain injuries. He guides clients from their initial consultation through trial and, when necessary, the appellate process in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Szostak earned a Bachelor of Arts from Brown University in 1976 and a Juris Doctor from Widener University School of Law in 1982. While in law school, he served on the Delaware Journal of Corporate Law. His academic training and journal experience strengthened his legal research, writing, and analytical skills, providing a foundation for evaluating complex evidence, developing persuasive arguments, and addressing the procedural demands of high-stakes civil litigation.

Szostak has served as lead or co-trial counsel in more than 35 jury trials and has handled numerous appellate matters in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. His results include a $5.7 million settlement involving a brain injury during a radiographic procedure, a $4.375 million verdict against an emergency room physician and hospital, and a $1.7 million recovery for failure to diagnose meningitis. He has also secured recoveries in product defect, premises negligence, motor vehicle, insurance bad faith, and construction cases.

Robert T. Szostak has been selected as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer since 2008 and has held an AV Preeminent peer-review rating from Martindale-Hubbell since 2002. He has taught programs for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute and trial lawyer organizations and has written about medical malpractice and trial practice. His professional leadership includes chairing the Philadelphia Bar Association’s State Civil Litigation Section and serving on its Board of Governors and Commission on Judicial Selection and Retention.
