Robert M. Herz

Robert M. Herz is the owner of the Law Offices of Robert Herz, P.C. in Anchorage and has practiced criminal defense in Alaska since 1987. His practice represents clients accused of crimes in state and federal courts, with a long-standing focus on federal white collar cases and federal drug felonies. Robert also handles matters involving gun charges, asset forfeiture, fish and game violations, and serious felony allegations, including representation during investigations before charges are filed.

Robert received a B.S. with honors from the University of California and a J.D. from the University of Oregon. After law school, he clerked for Alaska Superior Court Judge Thomas E. Schulz. His academic and judicial background provided a foundation in legal analysis, criminal procedure, and courtroom practice. He later built substantial experience in public defense before establishing a private practice focused on protecting the rights of people facing state and federal investigations and prosecutions.

Robert previously served as Supervising Attorney for the Palmer office of the Alaska Public Defender Agency, where he trained new lawyers in trial advocacy. Over his career, he has tried numerous serious felony and misdemeanor cases and has represented clients in difficult criminal matters in Alaska courts. He has also lectured on jury selection, cross-examination, discovery, forensic evidence, and case management, drawing on practical experience with the preparation and trial of contested criminal cases.

Robert M. Herz is a founding member of the Alaska Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and has served in leadership roles with Alaska trial-lawyer organizations. His professional background also includes service on the Criminal Rules Committee for the Alaska Court System. Robert’s practice combines trial experience, public defense leadership, federal criminal work, and procedural knowledge to help clients understand charges, evaluate evidence, protect constitutional rights, and respond strategically to criminal investigations and prosecutions.
