Robert H. Whitney was a respected Ohio attorney who practiced criminal law for more than six decades. Beginning his legal career in Mansfield in 1962, he became known for his courtroom skill and dedication to justice. He served clients primarily in Richland, Ashland, Morrow, and Crawford Counties.
Robert earned his Bachelor of Arts in Social Studies from Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio, after attending Ashland College and serving two years in the U.S. Army. He remained at Ohio Northern University to earn his Juris Doctorate in 1962, laying the foundation for a long and impactful legal career.
In 1972, Robert co-founded the law firm that continues his legacy today. Over the course of his career, he tried several hundred jury trials, including high-profile death penalty cases. His deep knowledge of criminal law and unwavering advocacy made him one of the region’s most formidable defense attorneys.
Beyond his legal career, Robert dedicated himself to public service. He served on the Lexington Local Schools Board of Education, beginning in 1964, and served as its president for more than 35 years. His leadership and commitment extended far beyond the courtroom, impacting generations of students and families.
Robert H. Whitney passed away on January 1, 2024, leaving behind a profound legacy in the Mansfield legal community. His contributions to criminal defense and public service are enduring.
