About
Robert G. Gibbs is Of Counsel at Morris James in Georgetown, Delaware. Since January 2024, his practice has focused exclusively on alternative dispute resolution, including arbitration, mediation, neutral assessment, and structured settlements. He works with parties seeking resolution of business and commercial disputes without relying solely on full litigation. His work includes mediating matters connected to Delaware’s Court of Chancery and Superior Court.
Gibbs earned a B.A. in Economics, with honors, from Drew University in 1974 and a J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1984. He was admitted to practice in Delaware in 1986, following earlier admissions in Maryland and the District of Columbia. He completed Delaware Superior Court Mediation Training in 2007. That education and practical training support his work assessing disputed positions, facilitating negotiation, and conducting neutral proceedings.
Before narrowing his practice to dispute resolution, Gibbs advised on business formation, commercial transactions, commercial lending, residential and commercial real estate, and related civil litigation. He has served as an arbitrator, mediator, and neutral assessor in Delaware court ADR programs. He concentrates on mediating business disputes and has reported a settlement rate above ninety percent in matters handled in the Court of Chancery and Superior Court.
Gibbs has received recognition from Best Lawyers and Delaware Today, including a 2020 Lawyer of the Year designation in Healthcare Law. He has also served on Delaware Supreme Court boards addressing professional responsibility and unauthorized practice of law. His varied commercial and real estate background informs his neutral approach to disputes. Robert G. Gibbs now helps parties examine potential settlements and consider alternatives to continued litigation.
