Robert D. Gifford

Robert D. Gifford is the founder of Gifford Law, P.L.L.C. in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He handles complex civil and criminal litigation in federal, state, tribal, and military courts, with a practice that includes civil rights, whistleblower claims, white collar defense, Native American law, military law, and government contracts. Gifford represents clients from investigation through trial, appeal, habeas proceedings, and pardon or commutation matters, depending on the case.

Gifford earned his J.D. from the University of Oklahoma College of Law, where he served as an editor of the American Indian Law Review. He graduated with honors from Southwestern College and later earned a Master of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College. His academic background, combined with years of teaching trial advocacy and law, supports his work on complex constitutional, criminal, tribal, and military legal issues.

Gifford’s experience includes service as an Assistant United States Attorney, Assistant District Attorney, tribal court judge, and Army JAG lawyer. He completed more than 20 years of active and reserve military service and retired as a colonel in 2019 after handling more than 100 courts-martial. He has tried and argued cases in federal and military forums in the United States and abroad and continues to practice in tribal courts across Oklahoma.

Robert D. Gifford also serves as a part-time municipal judge for the City of Oklahoma City and has taught at several law schools and professional advocacy programs. He has published on trial advocacy and criminal law and brings experience as a prosecutor, defense lawyer, judge, military officer, and educator to his practice. Gifford’s work centers on protecting individual rights, handling complex disputes, and guiding clients through demanding proceedings in multiple court systems.
