Richard Monteith is a criminal defense attorney serving clients throughout Manchester, Concord, Nashua, Derry, Salem, Portsmouth, and surrounding New Hampshire communities. He represents individuals charged with serious offenses, including first and second degree murder, assault, bank robbery, federal drug conspiracies, DUI, and other felony and misdemeanor crimes. Monteith focuses exclusively on defending the accused, providing strong courtroom advocacy and strategic defense planning in both state and federal courts.
Monteith earned his J.D. from Franklin Pierce Law Center, now the University of New Hampshire School of Law. He received his B.A. from the University of New Hampshire. After law school, he worked with the Providence, Rhode Island, Public Defender’s Office before entering private practice. His early public defense experience strengthened his commitment to protecting constitutional rights and defending individuals facing serious criminal allegations in complex cases.
Monteith has completed advanced trial training at Gerry Spence’s Trial Lawyers College. He also trained at the National College for DUI Defense at Harvard Law School and the Trial Skills Academy presented by the Institute for Criminal Defense Advocacy. These programs sharpened his courtroom techniques, cross-examination skills, and case presentation strategies. He has tried major felony cases and regularly handles high-stakes criminal matters in New Hampshire courts.
Richard Monteith is admitted to practice in New Hampshire state courts, the United States District Court for the District of New Hampshire, the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. He is a member of several professional defense organizations and has lectured at criminal defense seminars. Monteith remains dedicated to defending clients with preparation, skill, and unwavering advocacy.
