About
Rebecca F. Briggs is a litigation attorney who focuses on complex business disputes, with a strong concentration in intellectual property matters. Her work includes patent, trade secret, copyright, and trademark suits. She also handles commercial litigation, contract disputes, non-compete cases, employment discrimination matters, and related claims in courts and agencies.
Rebecca earned her B.A. from Wesleyan University in 2003. She earned her M.A. from the European University of St. Petersburg, Russia, in 2004. She later earned her J.D. from The University of Chicago Law School in 2009, building a strong base for litigation work involving business, employment, and intellectual property issues.
Rebecca began her legal career through varied litigation roles that gave her experience from public defense work to private practice. She served as an Assistant Public Defender with the Rhode Island Public Defender’s Office in 2010. She also worked as an Associate and Summer Associate with Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP before continuing in commercial litigation.
Rebecca later gained in-house experience as Legal Counsel – Litigation at Aetna, a CVS Health Company, from 2019 to 2021. That role helped her understand how legal disputes affect business operations. She uses that insight when advising clients on practical risk, dispute strategy, proprietary information, and employment concerns.
Rebecca has worked through all stages of litigation, including early investigation, pre-suit advice, resolution efforts, motion practice, trials, verdicts, and appeals. She has argued dispositive motions and tried cases to verdict. Her approach combines careful case preparation with clear advice for clients facing difficult business or workplace disputes.
Rebecca has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America® (2026) for Litigation – Intellectual Property and Litigation — Labor and Employment. She was also listed in Ones to Watch (2023-2025), Rhode Island Monthly, Professional Excellence in the Law (2025), and Super Lawyers, Rhode Island, Rising Star (2015-2018).
Rebecca F. Briggs helps clients protect business interests, defend rights, and address disputes involving intellectual property, contracts, labor, and employment law.
