About

Matthew W. Light advises individuals, businesses, and public bodies on legal matters that require judgment and planning. He handles corporate and general business work, contracts, real estate law, succession planning, financing, purchases, and sales at BotkinRose PLC. Mr. Light earned his B.A. summa cum laude from Drew University and his J.D. magna cum laude from Washington and Lee University School of Law. After law school, he completed a judicial clerkship with Hon. James C. Turk of the United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia. Mr. Light has built a broad law career by serving as both a general counsel and detail focused adviser. He works with business owners on formation, operations, agreements, transfers, and other transactions. He advises on real estate matters and helps clients plan for business or family transitions. For estate clients, he explains options in plain terms and prepares plans that protect property, reduce uncertainty, and support future needs. His counsel is useful when clients face complex choices and need clear steps.

Matthew W. Light also serves local governments and public organizations with legal needs connected to municipal operations and financing. He has served as Town Attorney for Broadway and has been appointed by the Rockingham County Circuit Court as a Commissioner in Chancery.
