Raymond P. Niro, Jr. is a seasoned intellectual property trial attorney with extensive experience handling complex disputes involving patents, trademarks, trade secrets, and unfair competition claims. Throughout a career spanning more than two decades as lead counsel, he has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in high-stakes litigation across the United States. Known for strategic case preparation and persuasive courtroom advocacy, he has secured significant results in jury trials, appeals, and settlements involving a wide range of intellectual property matters.

Raymond has achieved numerous multimillion-dollar outcomes in intellectual property disputes. In 2015, he obtained a $54 million jury award for Black & Decker involving the yellow and black color scheme used for its DeWalt line of power tools, one of the largest trademark infringement verdicts of its kind. He also secured a $4.3 million judgment for Kolcraft Enterprises in a patent dispute involving children’s products following a successful jury verdict and appeal. Additional notable results include obtaining $7.5 million in litigation involving Weber-Stephen Products’ Genesis line of grills, a $6.6 million recovery for Black & Decker, and a $4 million settlement in a trademark dispute resolved in 2023.

Raymond’s litigation experience also includes significant defense-side victories. He has represented companies such as B. Braun Medical, Stanley Black & Decker, Weber-Stephen Products, ValueClick (now Conversant), and Lemko Corp. In one notable matter, he successfully defended Progressive Medical, Inc. during a patent dispute involving elastomeric infusion pumps. He also helped secure the affirmance of summary judgment of noninfringement in a major patent case involving products with sales exceeding $300 million.

Raymond P. Niro, Jr. has shared legal knowledge through teaching at DePaul Law School and speaking at professional programs hosted by organizations including LES and the Chicago Bar Association. In 2004, he was selected as one of the “Top 40 Illinois Attorneys Under 40” by the Illinois Law Bulletin. In 2024, he was recognized as one of “America’s Top 100 High-Stakes Litigators,” an honor awarded to fewer than one-half percent of attorneys nationwide.
