Megan K. Bannigan is a partner in Debevoise’s Litigation and Intellectual Property & Media Groups. Her practice focuses on trademarks, trade dress, copyrights, false advertising, design patents, rights of publicity, and licensing disputes. She represents clients in beauty, consumer products, cosmetics, entertainment, fashion, luxury goods, food, pharmaceuticals, sports, and technology.

Megan received her J.D. with high honors from Rutgers School of Law – Camden in 2007, where she served as production editor of the Rutgers Law Review. She earned her B.A. with honors from Rutgers University in 2002. She is admitted in New York, New Jersey, and the named federal courts.

Megan is ranked by Chambers USA in the Intellectual Property: Trademark, Copyright & Trade Secrets guides for New York, Nationwide, and Global. Managing IP named her Trademark Litigator of the Year for the Northeast in 2026. She also appears in IP STARS, The Legal 500 US, World Trademark Review, and Law360.

Megan has trial and litigation experience in federal courts and agencies. She helped secure an over $20 million jury verdict for Learning Annex in the Southern District of New York. She manages multidistrict litigation and represents clients before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, TTAB, and International Trade Commission.

Megan speaks and writes for business, legal practice, and education groups. She is quoted or published in national and international outlets on legal matters. She testified before the United States Senate Judiciary Intellectual Property Subcommittee on fraudulent trademarks and teaches Advanced Trademark and False Advertising Law, as well as Fashion Law.

Megan K. Bannigan joined Debevoise in 2007 and clerked for Judge Mary Little Cooper from 2008 to 2009. She serves with INTA, ABA-IPL, NYC Bar, and AIPLA groups and supports pro bono and nonprofit work with Delivering Good, the Cancer Research Institute, and Advocates for Children of New York.
