Ralph P. Albrecht

Ralph P. Albrecht has more than twenty-five years of experience handling intellectual property and technology matters for businesses of many sizes. His work includes patent preparation, trademark protection, copyright registration, technology licensing, and software agreements. He also advises clients on cybersecurity, data privacy, e-commerce matters, and complex commercial transactions.

Ralph earned a Bachelor of Science, cum laude, Electrical Engineering with Computer Option from Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University in 1989. He later received a Juris Doctor from George Mason University, Antonin Scalia Law School in Fairfax, Virginia, in 1997. His technical background continues to support his intellectual property practice.

Ralph began his legal career in private practice as a patent attorney in Washington, DC in 1997. Before entering law, he spent eight years at IBM Corporation working in avionics development, submarine command control systems engineering, information technology consulting, technical sales, and research and development. That experience shaped his practical understanding of technology industries.

Ralph works with companies involved in software, communications, cybersecurity, manufacturing, financial services, and emerging technologies. He assists clients with patent applications in the United States and abroad while also helping businesses structure licensing agreements, outsourcing arrangements, and technology transactions. His practice regularly covers artificial intelligence, blockchain, cloud services, and network security matters.

Ralph has remained active in several legal and professional organizations throughout his career. He is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and previously served as President of the Bar Association of the District of Columbia. He has also supported technology and cybersecurity initiatives through educational programs, mentoring activities, and industry advisory positions.

Ralph has received recognition for his work in intellectual property law, including the AV Preeminent Rating from Martindale-Hubbell and selection to Super Lawyers Top Rated Intellectual Property Attorney in Washington, DC, from 2016 through 2023. He has also presented seminars and written publications discussing patents, intellectual property, and technology law developments.
