H. Robert Showers

H. Robert Showers brings decades of legal experience to clients facing serious disputes, organizational challenges, injury claims, and business concerns. His work includes commercial and civil litigation, personal injury, nonprofit and church law, small business matters, mergers and acquisitions, risk management, intellectual property, constitutional law, and employment law.

Robert earned a B.A., cum laude, from Wake Forest University in 1977. He later earned a J.D. from Wake Forest University in 1980, where he was connected with the National Moot Court Justice and the WF Law Review. His education supports his long record in litigation, appeals, and advisory work.

Robert began his legal career in public service before entering private practice. He served as a federal prosecutor, founded the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section at the US Dept of Justice, and handled complex civil litigation as Chief of the Civil Section in the US Attorney’s office in Raleigh, NC.

Robert later spent 13 years as a managing owner of a Washington DC Metro area firm. During that time, he led litigation and appellate departments while working in areas similar to his current background. This experience helped shape his practical approach to disputes, appeals, and client counseling.

Robert has represented and advised churches, nonprofits, businesses, and individuals across many legal needs. He is described as a nationally recognized expert in church and nonprofit law and has helped hundreds of churches and nonprofits throughout the US with legal structure, risk concerns, disputes, and preventive planning.

Robert is admitted in Virginia, North Carolina, the District of Columbia, and Maryland. His court admissions include the U.S. Supreme Court, several U.S. Courts of Appeals, federal district courts in North Carolina and Virginia, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, and the U.S. Court of Military Appeals.
