R. Garth Best

R. Garth Best is a founding attorney at Best & Brock, PLLC, and a respected trial lawyer in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He is known for handling complex criminal defense law matters with strong courtroom advocacy and careful preparation. Throughout his career, Mr. Best has represented individuals facing serious charges, working to protect their rights at every stage of the legal process. Mr. Best received his undergraduate education at the Virginia Military Institute, Class of 2003. He earned a B.A. in International Studies with a concentration in Middle Eastern Studies, along with minors in Arabic and Business. His academic training included studying Arabic and Political Science abroad in Morocco and Egypt. While working full-time, he attended Nashville School of Law and earned his J.D. in 2008. During law school, he served as Vice President of the Honor Council in 2007 and 2008.

Mr. Best began his legal career with extensive hands-on training at the Hamilton County Public Defender’s Office. While still a law student, he volunteered more than 20 hours per week, assisting with indigent defense and courtroom preparation. During this time, he conducted preliminary hearings in serious felony cases, defended against probation violations, and successfully negotiated more than 200 cases.

Mr. Best, after earning his J.D., joined the Public Defender’s Office as an Assistant Public Defender. He represented clients in high-stakes criminal cases and gained valuable trial experience. In 2010, he moved into private practice, where he has continued defending clients across Tennessee and Northern Georgia.

R. Garth Best is admitted to practice in all Tennessee state courts and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee. He has also served as a special judge in Hamilton County. His work focuses on clear communication, strong advocacy, and achieving results for the people he represents.
