About
Emmett McAuliffe helps clients protect, manage, and use intellectual property in practical business settings. His work includes trademarks, copyrights, licensing, invention exploitation, and related litigation. He has filed and prosecuted hundreds of U.S. and international trademark and copyright applications for IP-focused businesses.
Emmett earned his Juris Doctor from Vanderbilt Law School and completed the Concannon Program in International Law at Notre Dame. He was also a former member of the adjunct faculty of St. Louis University School of Law and taught intellectual property to third-year law students at Handong International Law School.
Emmett advises creative professionals, media clients, and business owners on asset protection, acquisition, work-for-hire matters, financing, production, distribution, licensing, and litigation. His background in an intellectual property boutique setting helps him connect trademark, copyright, and right of publicity issues to long-term branding plans.
Emmett also works on business counseling, formation, mergers, sales, and acquisitions. He has handled many contracts and deal points and has served as a lead negotiator. His experience includes acting as chief general counsel, company formation strategies, commercial litigation, international litigation, and trial advocacy.
Emmett has tried hundreds of bench trials and several first-chair jury trials to verdict. He has also briefed a case to the United States Supreme Court. His admission includes Missouri, and his practice reflects a strong mix of courtroom skill, IP strategy, and business-focused legal guidance. Emmett was named “Best Intellectual Property Attorneys” by St. Louis Small Business Monthly in 2023. In 2007, he received a gold record plaque from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for his involvement in an album that achieved 500,000 in sales.
Emmett McAuliffe has also helped people through service in the arts, education, and community work. He served on the Missouri Arts Council and the Missouri Cultural Trust from 2008-2017, helping oversee public arts funding, and volunteered with institutions including Washington University, YMCA, St. Louis Public Schools, and KDHX-FM.
