Peter N. Jansson

Peter N. Jansson is a founding shareholder of Jansson Munger & McKinley Ltd., a role he has held since 1984. He focuses on intellectual property law and complex litigation. Over many years, he has served as lead counsel in disputed matters in both corporate and private practice. He represents clients in patent and trademark cases, trade dress disputes, unfair competition claims, and related antitrust issues. He guides businesses through conflicts that affect their brands, products, and market position. His work includes handling cases in federal trial and appellate courts, where he presents clear arguments and protects his clients’ rights. Mr. Jansson earned a B.S. (Mathematics) from Carnegie Mellon University in 1966. He later received his LL.D. from the University of Virginia in 1969. His academic training in mathematics and law built a strong foundation for analyzing complex legal and technical issues.

Mr. Jansson has been licensed in Wisconsin and Illinois, as well as before the United States Patent & Trademark Office throughout his career. He is also admitted to many federal trial and appellate courts, including the Federal Circuit, the Seventh Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. This broad admission allows him to represent clients across multiple jurisdictions and levels of review. He previously worked with S.C. Johnson & Son, Inc., where he gained valuable corporate experience. In addition to his legal practice, he has served on the Federal Judicial Selection Commission and the Commerce Department’s IP Law Committee.
