Peter C. Butcher focuses on helping financial institutions and borrowers navigate complex debt financing transactions. His practice centers on structuring and negotiating financing arrangements that support business growth, acquisitions, and long-term operational goals. Through years of work across diverse industries, he has developed a practical understanding of the legal and commercial issues that influence financing decisions. His experience allows him to guide clients through sophisticated transactions while addressing both legal requirements and business objectives.
Peter earned a BS in Accounting from The Pennsylvania State University in 1990. He later received a JD from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1995, graduating cum laude and serving as Executive Editor of the Law Review.
Peter is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and is affiliated with the Allegheny County Bar Association. In addition to his legal practice, Peter has presented seminars on secured transactions related to Article 9 of the Uniform Commercial Code and has been invited to lecture at the Katz School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh on topics including Contract Law and Secured Transactions.
Peter advises on a broad range of financing matters, including secured transactions, private placements, acquisition and merger financing, leveraged finance, asset-based financing, real estate financing, direct lending, and project finance. He has worked on large secured and unsecured credit facilities involving multiple lenders and multi-currency structures. Peter also assists with workouts and restructurings of troubled credits and negotiates intercreditor arrangements when multiple lending parties are involved. His practice reflects a strong command of both traditional and complex financing structures.
Peter C. Butcher brings additional experience in international banking and cross-border financial matters. His work has included offshore finance, trade finance, repurchase and discounting agreements, Export-Import Bank-insured and guaranteed credits, loan portfolio sales, and bank regulatory matters. Throughout his career, he has represented companies operating in sectors such as commodity production, manufacturing, retail, distribution, real estate, mining, energy, telecommunications, health care, and high-tech industries. This broad industry exposure enables him to understand the unique challenges faced by businesses in different markets.
