About
Peg O’Connor is a defense lawyer with a strong background in criminal, civil, and appellate matters. Born and raised in Queens, New York, she built her legal career in Florida. Her work includes court counsel, federal clerkship service, private defense practice, teaching, and public service.
Peg is a triple Gator, having earned her Bachelor of Arts in criminology from the University of Florida. She also earned her Master of Arts in sociology and Juris Doctor through the University of Florida Concurrent Degree Program. These degrees shaped her broad view of law and justice.
Peg began her career as a staff attorney in the state court system. In that role, she provided counsel to judges on criminal, civil, and appellate matters, including capital cases. This work gave her a close view of court process, legal research, and serious case issues.
Peg later served as a federal clerk for United States District Court Judge Stephan P. Mickle in the Northern District of Florida. She handled criminal and civil issues, including homicide, drug cases, copyright violations, employment discrimination, eminent domain, and ERISA claims.
Peg entered private practice in 2007. She represents people accused of wrongdoing in criminal investigations and charges, school disciplinary proceedings, professional licensing matters, Florida Bar investigations, and Judicial Qualifications Commission investigations. Her practice centers on careful defense, clear advice, and steady support during difficult situations.
Peg has earned several professional recognitions. She holds a Martindale AV Preeminent Rating of 5.0 out of 5. She has also been recognized by Florida Super Lawyers and Florida Trend’s Legal Elite. In 2016, the Florida Supreme Court presented her with the Florida Bar President’s Pro Bono Service Award.
Peg O’Connor also serves the community through the Ask-a-Lawyer project and other pro bono efforts for homeless and low-income residents. She lectures on election law, deposition techniques, public speaking, and mental health issues in court. She also teaches at the University of Florida as an adjunct professor.
