Paul A. Levine

Paul A. Levine represents lending institutions, private lenders, and debt buyers in commercial loan disputes and restructurings. He works on matters before and during litigation, including forbearance agreements, foreclosures, receiverships, and claims involving loan notes and guarantees. His practice also includes bankruptcy and commercial litigation. Paul has handled loan matters involving commercial real estate, manufacturing, hospitality, shipping, and other industries.

Paul earned a B.S., magna cum laude, from Ithaca College, followed by a J.D. from George Washington University. His practice draws on experience in both state court litigation and bankruptcy proceedings. That range allows him to address a loan dispute from several angles, whether a client is considering a negotiated workout, pursuing payment, or protecting its position in bankruptcy.

Paul has served as a Chapter 7 panel trustee for more than 26 years and has also served as a Chapter 11 operating trustee and examiner. His bankruptcy work includes asset sales, preference and fraudulent conveyance claims, and representation of landlords, suppliers, and other creditors. Outside bankruptcy, he has served as a court-appointed receiver. He has tried cases in federal, bankruptcy, and state courts and argued appeals before federal and New York appellate courts.

Paul A. Levine has held leadership roles in the bankruptcy bar, including president of the Capital Region Bankruptcy Bar Association. He has served on the Local Rules Committee for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of New York and speaks and writes on bankruptcy and loan workouts. He has been selected as an Upstate New York Super Lawyer since 2007 and serves on the board of Unity House, a community service agency in Rensselaer County.
