Patrick N. Bergt is Counsel in Ballard Spahr LLP’s Anchorage office and represents clients in complex commercial lawsuits and disputes, white collar criminal defense, employment and labor law, corporate governance and compliance, and risk mitigation. Patrick brings both courtroom and executive leadership experience to his practice. Having served as outside counsel, a public lawyer, and an in-house chief legal officer, he advises clients on legal strategy while considering operational, regulatory, and business consequences.

Patrick earned a J.D. from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in 2009, where he participated on the Mock Trial Competition Team and made the Dean’s List. He received a B.S., cum laude, from Southern Oregon University in 2005. His education and trial training support a practice that combines litigation, compliance, employment matters, and business counseling. He is admitted in Alaska and California and speaks conversational Spanish.

Patrick previously served as Senior Vice President, General Counsel, and Secretary of Alaska Communications, directing legal strategy, complex litigation, corporate governance, regulatory compliance, employment and labor matters, commercial contracting, and enterprise risk management. Earlier roles included Municipal Attorney for the Municipality of Anchorage, Regulatory and Legal Affairs Manager for the Alaska Oil & Gas Association, private practice, and service as an Assistant District Attorney. He has tried more than 20 jury trials to verdict in Alaska Superior Court.

Patrick N. Bergt has handled matters involving major personal injury claims, maritime accidents, product liability, criminal defense, and commercial disputes. His representative experience includes defending public entities and private parties in high-stakes litigation and advising organizations on governance and risk. He also served on the Alaska Resource Development Council board from 2022 through 2025. Patrick’s combination of trial experience and executive responsibility helps clients connect legal strategy with practical business objectives and organizational decision-making.
