Patrick J. Barrett is a seasoned labor and employment attorney and a partner at Fraser Stryker. With decades of legal experience, he advises businesses and organizations on employment laws, workplace policies, and compliance matters. He represents both private and public sector clients in labor disputes, collective bargaining, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) issues, affirmative action, Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) cases, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) matters. His practice also extends to corporate compliance, business litigation, and appellate advocacy.
Patrick earned his J.D. from the University of Nebraska College of Law in 1983. He also holds a B.A., magna cum laude, from Creighton University, which he completed in 1980.
Patrick represents clients in complex disputes in both federal and state courts, as well as before administrative agencies. His litigation practice focuses on employment disputes, civil rights claims, and labor law matters. He also has deep appellate experience, having argued cases before the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Circuits and the U.S. Supreme Court. In addition, Patrick advises businesses on employment contracts, drafting and negotiating non-compete, nondisclosure, and confidentiality agreements to reduce legal risk and protect company assets.
Patrick provides strategic legal counsel to employers, guiding them through hiring processes, workplace investigations, employee discipline, terminations, and leave policies. He helps companies develop compliant human resource policies and conducts training on preventing discrimination and harassment. His proactive legal approach helps employers maintain compliance with state and federal laws, reducing the risk of costly disputes.
Patrick J. Barrett is also an active speaker, regularly presenting to management groups on employment law topics. His contributions to legal education include writing on disability accommodations, employment contracts, and workplace investigations.
