Karen spent nearly 30 years in public service, most notably as the Chief Assistant District Attorney in the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office from 2014 to 2021. As the second-highest-ranking attorney in the office, she led major criminal cases, managed a team of 1,500 legal professionals, and oversaw a $120 million budget. She supervised investigations into violent crimes, cold case homicides, and complex legal matters while acting as the Acting District Attorney in the DA’s absence.

Throughout her career, Karen played a key role in shaping New York’s criminal justice policies. She helped establish the Human Trafficking Unit, Hate Crimes Unit, Cybercrimes Bureau, and Terrorism Unit, improving the prosecution of these serious offenses. She also worked in the New York City Mayor’s Office, advising on criminal justice reforms.
