Nelson K. Ahn is a partner in New York who focuses on cross-border transactions and regulatory matters for Korean and international businesses. With more than 30 years of experience in the United States and Korea, he provides practical, business-oriented counsel. He advises financial and non-financial institutions on mergers and acquisitions, private equity transactions, and complex regulatory frameworks across multiple jurisdictions.
Nelson earned his JD from Boston College Law School in 1988. He received his BA from Columbia College, Columbia University, in 1985. His U.S. legal education supports a career centered on international finance and corporate transactions. He combines strong academic training with decades of hands-on experience to guide clients through sophisticated cross-border matters.
Nelson previously built cross-border transaction practice groups at leading Korean law firms, including Kim & Chang and Lee & Ko. Before relocating to Korea, he was a partner in the New York offices of two AmLaw 100 firms, concentrating on M&A, private equity, and financial institutions work. Earlier, he served in the legal department of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, focusing on regulatory issues affecting financial institutions.
Nelson K. Ahn also brings significant public sector insight. He served as a Member of the Self-Regulation Committee of the Korea Financial Investment Association and as Senior Counselor to South Korea’s Deputy Prime Minister at the Ministry of Strategy and Finance. He is Vice Chair of the ABA International Practice Group’s M&A Committee and has advised emerging nations through APEC initiatives.
