Nathaniel S. Berry

Nathaniel S. Berry is counsel in Baltimore whose practice focuses on complex commercial and business disputes. He handles claims involving breach of contract, fraud, consumer protection laws, business torts, and commercial landlord-tenant matters. He represents lenders, loan servicers, insurance companies, special servicers, trusts, and other commercial entities in individual lawsuits and putative class actions. His work also includes lender liability and intercreditor disputes involving commercial mortgage-backed securities.

Nathaniel earned a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania in 2004 and a J.D. from Columbia University School of Law in 2009. Before entering private practice, he worked as a legislative aide to Congressman Todd Platts, analyzing policy related to energy, agriculture, commerce, international relations, and the judiciary. He also clerked for the U.S. House Committee on Government Reform, where he addressed public-sector financial management matters.

Nathaniel has helped secure dismissals for lenders, mortgage loan servicers, trusts, and special servicers in commercial lending and foreclosure disputes. His experience includes a case that resulted in a foreclosure judgment, a $40 million judgment against a borrower, and $5 million in judgments against loan guarantors. He has also obtained summary judgment for a title insurance company in a property dispute and for a client in litigation over the ownership of a $2 million automobile.

Nathaniel S. Berry was selected for The Best Lawyers in America, Ones to Watch, from 2021 through 2025 and is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association. His pro bono work includes representing immigrants and refugees seeking asylum and serving on the Baltimore Advisory Committee of Kids in Need of Defense.
