Nathan Severson

Nathan Severson is a trial lawyer and the head of the personal injury department at SW&L Attorneys. He is dedicated to representing individuals and families whose lives have been devastated by catastrophic accidents, particularly semi-truck crashes. With years of courtroom experience and a reputation for relentless advocacy, Nathan is recognized as one of the leading personal injury attorneys in North Dakota. His focus is on securing fair outcomes for clients facing life-altering injuries.

Nathan earned his B.A. in political science with a minor in business administration from North Dakota State University before completing his J.D. at the University of North Dakota School of Law. During law school, he distinguished himself as a member of the Order of the Coif, the Order of Barristers, and the Moot Court Association. He also externed with Judge Kermit Bye at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, graduating with distinction.

Nathan began his career in Las Vegas, working for a large insurance defense firm. That experience provided insight into the strategies of insurance companies and fueled his passion to fight on behalf of injured clients. Since joining SW&L Attorneys in 2013, he has devoted his practice to personal injury litigation, earning recognition from Super Lawyers as a Great Plains Super Lawyer (2013–2025) and as one of the Top 5 Super Lawyers in North Dakota in 2025.

Active in professional associations, Nathan Severson is a member of the North Dakota Association for Justice, the American Association for Justice, and the Academy of Truck Accident Attorneys. He also serves on the International Society of Barristers. His community work includes organizing the SW&L Charitable Fund and serving on the NDEMS Foundation Board of Directors. With deep local roots and national recognition, he is committed to both client advocacy and community service.
