Mitchell A. Stephens

Mitchell A. Stephens is a seasoned trial lawyer known for his success in complex litigation. He has represented clients in state and federal courts, winning major verdicts and settlements in commercial, insurance, trust, and real estate matters. His courtroom victories include a $24 million jury award and an $8.5 million insurance settlement.

Mitchell earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Utah Valley University in 2004, graduating magna cum laude. He then attended The S.J. Quinney College of Law at The University of Utah, where he earned his J.D. in 2007 with Highest Honors. He was a William H. Leary Scholar, inducted into the Order of the Coif, and served as an editor of the Utah Law Review.

Mitchell has a strong record in both plaintiff and defense litigation. He has helped recover millions in MLM disputes, eminent domain cases, and trust litigation. On the defense side, he has successfully defended clients in cases involving claims over $36 million, including complete dismissals of fraud and contract claims.

Mitchell also focuses on professional liability defense. He has represented top-tier Utah firms and AmLaw 100 clients with great success. Since 2018, he has served on the Utah Supreme Court’s Ethics & Discipline Committee, reviewing complaints of lawyer misconduct. Mitchell is experienced in handling appeals and has prevailed in cases before the Utah Supreme Court, the Utah Court of Appeals, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. His background includes a clerkship with the Honorable Carolyn B. McHugh of the Utah Court of Appeals.
