About

Michelle N. Lipkowitz is a Member of Mintz and the Managing Member of its Washington, DC office. She is a seasoned litigator representing companies and individuals in high-stakes litigation, class actions, incident-response investigations, white collar defense, and government investigations. She advises health plans, payors, managed care organizations, life sciences companies, governmental entities, nonprofits, and businesses in several industries. Her work extends from pre-litigation counseling and investigations through trials, arbitrations, and administrative proceedings.

Michelle earned a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and a B.A. from Harvard University, where she graduated cum laude and received several academic distinctions. During law school, she served on the Georgetown Journal of Gender and the Law. Her education supports a practice requiring sophisticated legal analysis, persuasive advocacy, and careful management of fact-intensive disputes. That foundation complements her work in commercial litigation, investigations, crisis response, and white collar matters.

Michelle represents corporations and individuals facing investigations or potential prosecution by the US Department of Justice and other federal and state agencies. Her experience includes international breach-of-contract arbitration, municipal contract disputes, a $25 million breach-of-lease bench trial, and multidistrict construction litigation involving approximately $30 million in claims. She has also handled criminal and related civil matters for high-profile clients and regularly counsels organizations through sensitive disputes involving legal, operational, and reputational concerns.

Michelle N. Lipkowitz has held significant law-firm leadership roles and serves in board and civic positions. Her recognitions include Benchmark Litigation honors and selection by Savoy magazine among influential Black lawyers. She is admitted in the District of Columbia and Maryland and has been trained to serve as an arbitrator and mediator, including as an American Arbitration Association neutral. Her practice combines courtroom experience, investigation strategy, crisis management, and leadership in complex commercial and government-facing matters.
