Michelle L. Boutin, Of Counsel at Landye Bennett Blumstein LLP, has practiced law in Alaska since 1986, concentrating on commercial collections, creditors’ rights, and lender representation. She advises and represents private businesses, banks, and credit unions in high-value collection matters and bankruptcy cases, including defending preference claims.
Michelle earned her Juris Doctor from Hamline University School of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota, and her Bachelor of Science with honors from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, where she was recognized as Outstanding Justice Student of the Year in 1983. She is admitted to practice in Alaska, the U.S. District Court for the District of Alaska, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
Before entering private practice, Michelle clerked for U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Herbert A. Ross from 1986 to 1988, then served as staff attorney and later lead counsel for the FDIC’s Alaska Legal Department from 1989 to 1993. Her work includes handling lien rights in vessels, aircraft, mining claims, oil rigs, timber, wells, mines, real property, and leases of all types.
Michelle is recognized for her leadership and professional excellence, having been named in Best Lawyers in America for Bankruptcy Litigation since 2007 and earning the “Lawyer of the Year” title in 2012. She also received the Alaska Bar Association’s Professionalism Award in 2014 and is a past attorney representative to the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference.
As current Chair of the Bankruptcy Section of the Alaska Bar Association, Michelle Boutin frequently presents on insolvency, foreclosure, and bankruptcy matters, including at the Alaska Annual Construction Law Conference and the Alaska Land Title Association Convention. Her depth of experience and practical approach make her a trusted resource for complex creditor representation across Alaska.
