Michael M. Hanis, is a founding partner of Hanis Irvine Prothero, PLLC. He conceived the vision for a large, comprehensive law firm serving South King County. Michael earned a B.S. in Business Management from Brigham Young University in 1972. He later received his J.D. from Willamette University College of Law in Salem, Oregon, graduating in 1975, after completing his early education at Renton High School.
Michael’s practice focuses on real estate, construction law, land use and zoning, eminent domain, municipal law, and commercial litigation. He helps clients navigate complex transactions and disputes while protecting their interests. He is known for clear guidance, careful planning, and steady advocacy across a wide range of legal matters.
Michael has extensive courtroom experience at every stage of litigation. He has appeared before Washington State Superior Courts, the Washington Court of Appeals, and the Washington State Supreme Court. His federal experience includes matters before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and other federal courts.
Beyond litigation, Michael has represented clients before city councils, county councils, and committees of the Washington State Legislature. He has negotiated long-term water contracts for agencies serving hundreds of thousands of Puget Sound residents. He is a member of the Washington State Bar Association and the American Bar Association.
