Michael J. LaBrie is a shareholder at McAfee & Taft and leads the firm’s Intellectual Property and Biotech Industry Groups. Devoting his career to intellectual property law, he represents clients in patents, trademarks, copyrights, licensing, trade secrets, and related litigation worldwide. Registered before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, he handles prosecution, portfolio management, licensing, infringement analysis, and dispute resolution in federal courts and administrative proceedings.
LaBrie earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma and his J.D., magna cum laude, from Oklahoma City University School of Law. While in law school, he was a Merit Scholar, served on the Law Review, participated in Moot Court, and achieved numerous academic honors. His engineering background provides valuable technical insight for clients in industries ranging from biotechnology to energy and software.
LaBrie serves as chief IP counsel for corporations, start-ups, and technology ventures, advising on global patent filings, trademark portfolio strategies, and complex IP agreements. His work includes international prosecution in nearly every jurisdiction, negotiating software and joint development contracts, and guiding mergers and acquisitions involving significant IP assets. Recognized by Chambers USA, Best Lawyers, and Oklahoma Super Lawyers, he has earned multiple “Lawyer of the Year” awards in patent, trademark, copyright, and IP litigation.
