Luis M. Ortiz

Luis M. Ortiz is an AV® Preeminent-rated attorney with over 25 years of experience in intellectual property law. A founding member of Ortiz & Lopez, PLLC – Intellectual Property Attorneys, he counsels and represents clients in litigation, licensing, and the preparation and prosecution of patents and trademarks. Ortiz is also skilled in developing strategic intellectual property portfolios for diverse industries.

Ortiz earned his J.D. from the University of New Mexico, a B.S.E.T. from New Mexico State University, and an M.B.A. in Technology Management from the University of Phoenix. His combination of technical training, legal expertise, and business education allows him to advise clients on the legal and commercial aspects of protecting and monetizing intellectual property assets.

Licensed in New Mexico and Texas, Ortiz is admitted before multiple federal courts, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office as a registered patent attorney. He is also a Certified Licensing Professional (CLP®) and a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the U.S. Air Force Reserve Judge Advocate General’s Corps, where he served for 30 years.
