Michael F. Hart

Michael F. Hart is the Managing Partner of Hart Powell, S.C. in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He has practiced for more than 30 years in criminal defense, civil litigation, and personal injury matters. Hart represents individuals facing serious state and federal charges, including homicide, sexual assault, drug conspiracies, fraud, and other white collar offenses. His work also includes complex civil disputes and personal injury cases, with a practice centered on courtroom advocacy and high-stakes litigation.

Hart earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1985 and his law degree from Michigan State University College of Law in 1988. Before relocating to Wisconsin, he practiced in the Detroit area. His education and early legal experience provided a foundation for trial preparation, legal analysis, and advocacy in both criminal and civil matters. He is licensed to practice in Wisconsin and Michigan state and federal courts.

Hart has obtained results in numerous serious felony and white-collar cases and has represented clients that include professional athletes, law enforcement officers, physicians, lawyers, corporate executives, and other professionals. His federal criminal practice includes matters involving bank and mail fraud, drug trafficking, gun offenses, Medicare and healthcare fraud, and pre-indictment investigations. He has also handled significant civil litigation, including a defamation matter that resulted in a substantial award for his client.

Michael F. Hart has been recognized by Wisconsin Super Lawyers since the program’s inception and by The Best Lawyers in America since 2021. He is a member of the State Bar of Wisconsin, the State Bar of Michigan, the American Association for Justice, the Wisconsin Association for Justice, and a national criminal defense lawyers organization. He also previously served on the Board of Directors of the Bradley Center Sports and Entertainment Corporation, appointed by the Governor. His practice combines extensive trial experience with representation in complex criminal and civil matters.
