About
Michael F. Flaherty, Esq. is an accomplished attorney and public servant with deep roots in Boston’s legal, political, and civic communities. A lifelong resident of South Boston, he brings decades of experience to his private law practice, where he focuses on public finance, real estate, and business and corporate law. In addition to his legal work, Flaherty recently concluded a 20-year tenure as an At-Large member of the Boston City Council, choosing not to seek re-election in his most recent term.
Flaherty graduated from Boston College High School, earned his Bachelor’s degree from Boston College, and received his J.D. from Boston University School of Law.
Flaherty began his legal career as an assistant district attorney in the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, where he prosecuted cases and developed his skills as a trial attorney. He later joined the law firm Adler Pollock & Sheehan in 2006 before establishing his own firm, the Law Offices of Michael F. Flaherty. His in-depth understanding of the legal landscape, particularly in Boston, enables him to counsel various commercial clients strategically.
Sworn into the Boston City Council in 2000, Michael F. Flaherty quickly rose to leadership, serving as Council President from 2002 through 2006—a role he held for five consecutive terms. His tenure on the Council was marked by advocacy on issues such as urban development, public safety, and economic growth. In 2009, he launched a widely recognized campaign for Mayor of Boston and later returned to the Council in 2013 following his mayoral bid. With a unique blend of legal acumen, political insight, and local knowledge, Flaherty continues to influence Boston’s future through his legal practice and public service.
