About
Michael E. Kreis is a founding member and Memphis immigration lawyer who has represented and counseled immigrants since 2004. He assists individuals and families with complex immigration concerns, including removal proceedings, family-based applications, and related requests for legal status or protection. His work focuses on helping clients understand federal immigration procedures, prepare required filings, and address issues that may affect their ability to remain in or enter the United States.
Michael graduated from Christian Brothers University before earning his Juris Doctor from the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law at the University of Memphis. During law school, he served on the University of Memphis Law Review and received an award recognizing his legal writing. This academic experience strengthened his research, analysis, and written advocacy skills, which support his ability to explain complicated legal requirements and develop carefully prepared immigration arguments.
Michael handles removal and deportation defense matters involving bond hearings, asylum, cancellation of removal, contested removability, and motions to reopen or reconsider. His family immigration work includes petitions for spouses and other relatives, fiancé visas, waivers of inadmissibility, adjustment of status, consular processing, and citizenship matters. He also assists with immigration appeals, work authorization, travel permits, DACA, humanitarian parole, and military parole-in-place. Before entering immigration practice, he worked in business organization and corporate real estate.
Michael E. Kreis is admitted to practice in Tennessee, the United States District Court for the Western District of Tennessee, and the Sixth, Ninth, and Eleventh Circuit Courts of Appeals. His broad court admissions support his work on immigration matters that can move through different levels of federal review. By combining years of immigration experience with a background in legal writing and business law, he provides clients with practical guidance through demanding immigration processes.
