About
Michael-Corey F. Hinton is an attorney at Drummond Woodsum in Portland and leads the firm’s Tribal Nations Practice Group. He advises Tribal Nations, Tribe-owned entities, and organizations that interact with Tribes on federal Indian law and policy, the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, employment matters, economic development, environmental and natural resource issues, and the fee-to-trust process. His practice also includes business, corporate, litigation, and governmental matters affecting Tribal clients.
Corey earned a J.D. from the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University in 2011 and a B.A. from Colgate University in 2008. His legal education prepared him for work involving Tribal sovereignty, federal regulation, governmental structures, transactions, and policy. That foundation supports his ability to address matters that combine legal, commercial, environmental, employment, and administrative concerns for Tribal governments and organizations serving Indigenous communities.
Corey has represented clients before federal agencies including the Indian Health Service, Environmental Protection Agency, and Department of the Interior, including the National Indian Gaming Commission, Bureau of Indian Education, Fish and Wildlife Service, and Bureau of Reclamation. He advises on government-building, ethics and employment policies, Public Law 93-638 programs, real estate transactions, and nonprofit governance. Earlier in his career, he worked with the National Indian Gaming Commission and Senate Committee on Indian Affairs.
Michael-Corey F. Hinton is ranked by Chambers & Partners for Native American Law and has been recognized by Best Lawyers Ones to Watch and Super Lawyers for Native American Law.
